LAIS 301 - Sabor y Comunidad
During the fall semesters of 2017 and 2018, students in LAIS 301 – Spanish in the Community participated in different classes focused on gastronomy in Latin America and Hispanic/Latino food in the United States. In addition to discussing texts and films, the students analyzed, from a cultural perspective, different typical recipes and put them into practice in culinary sessions. The class worked, as a group, at the annual Fire, Flour & Fork festival in Richmond Virginia, designing educational activities focused on the Hispanic-American origin of the ingredients used in various cuisines. In addition to creating and sharing educational games, maps, and glossaries, the students translated recipes and collaborated as guides/interpreters during the festival. LAIS 301 - Sabor y comunidad
Durante el semestre de otoño de los años 2017 y 2018, los estudiantes del curso LAIS 301 Español en la comunidad trabajaron en clase distintas lecturas centradas en la gastronomía en Latinoamérica y la comida hispana/latina en los Estados Unidos. Además de discutir sobre textos y películas, los estudiantes analizaron desde una perspectiva cultural distintas recetas típicas y las pusieron en práctica en sesiones culinarias. La clase trabajó de manera grupal con el festival anual Fire, Flour & Fork de Richmond Virginia, diseñando actividades didácticas sobre el origen hispanoamericano de los ingredientes empleados en diversas gastronomías. Además de participar en stands educativos con juegos, mapas y glosarios, los estudiantes tradujeron recetas y colaboraron como guías-intérpretes durante el festival. ¡Siempre le agradecemos a Maureen Egan esta oportunidad!
